Our Mission

Our Story

Ginger's Hope was founded with a clear purpose: to provide financial help and support to diabetic families in rural areas of Kansas. Our mission is to ensure that these families have access to the medicine, supplies, equipment, education, and care they need to manage diabetes effectively. We are dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of diabetic individuals and their families, offering them hope and assistance every step of the way.

The family of Virginia Gene Lozar (Ginger) established this fund as a way to honor Ginger and tell her story in hopes that it will make a difference for other families learning how to live with Diabetes.

What's in a Name?

In 2018, our board established Ginger's Hope as an endowment fund with Grant County Community Foundation. As we were trying to decide on a name for our fund, we were challenged with finding a name that would mean something forever. We felt like the best way to do that would be to have a name that tells a story. A story that can be told over and over for many years.

The story of Ginger's Hope begins with our sister, Ginger. She was a very pretty little girl and super talented. She was excellent at singing and dancing, or at least as good as any little girl could be. In July 1960, Ginger became ill and was taken to the doctor where she was diagnosed with a virus and sent home with some medicine. On July 30th, 1960, Ginger fell into a diabetic coma and passed away at the tender age of 7 years old.

We hold firm to the belief that when somebody we love passes, we should honor and remember the life they lived and focus on that instead of how they died. This was difficult as Ginger lived such a short time and her death was such a tragedy for our family and our community. It is our dream that with Ginger's Hope, we can tell the story of her life and build a legacy for her. Her life, as short as it was, mattered so much to so many people. We ask that you remember her for the impact she had on our family & community and the good that is going to come from Ginger's Hope!
